Meet the Burmilla

A happy accident

The Burmilla began in England in 1981, when a Chinchilla Persian and a lilac Burmese met by chance. Their silver-shaded kittens were so lovely that breeders set out to develop them into a breed of their own.

From the Burmese side comes a muscular build and a love of people. From the Chinchilla comes that shimmering silver coat and the dark lining around the eyes, as if the cat is wearing eyeliner.

Burmilla kittens

From kitten to full-grown

Every Burmilla starts out as a bundle of curiosity. Kittens grow quickly, and the cat you see above is what yours will grow into.

Always choose a registered breeder. A good breeder will have your kitten vet-checked, vaccinated and microchipped, and will happily answer your questions and introduce you to the parents.

A Burmilla-friendly home

Life with a Burmilla

A Burmilla needs company, play and very little grooming.

Company matters

Burmillas love people. They are happiest in homes where someone is around, or with another friendly cat for company.

Daily play

Wand toys, puzzle feeders and a cat tree give a Burmilla's playful side somewhere to go.

Simple coat care

A quick weekly brush is usually all the short silky coat needs. Semi-longhairs need a little more.
