Meet the Burmese

Sleek, solid, and full of love

The modern Burmese traces back to Wong Mau, a walnut-brown cat brought from Burma to the United States in 1930. Today's Australian Burmese come in a wide range of colours, all with the same glossy coat and golden eyes.

Burmese are often described as 'bricks wrapped in silk' — compact, muscular and heavier than they look. They're famously people-focused, playful and affectionate, and they want to be involved in everything.

  • A short, satin-like coat that's easy to care for
  • Exceptionally people-oriented and loyal
  • Playful and kittenish well into adulthood

A Burmese-friendly home

Life with a Burmese

Burmese ask for very little grooming but plenty of attention — company, play and a warm lap are what they love most.

Never too far away

Burmese don't like long hours alone. They're happiest with people at home, or with another cat for company.

Safe indoor living

Trusting and curious, Burmese are safest as indoor cats with plenty of toys, perches and sunny spots.

Easy coat care

A weekly brush or a rub with a damp chamois keeps that satin coat gleaming.
